The flame retardant effect of synthesized phosphorus containing flame retardant on poly(lactic acid) |

In this study, phosphorus-containing flame retardant(PFR) was synthesized to improve the flame retardancy of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and PLA was prepared via ring opening polymerization of L-lactide. The chemical structure of synthesized PFR was characterized with a proton nuclear magnetic resonance and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Then, pristine PLA and flame retardant PLA films were prepared via solution casting method. The flame retardant effect of PFR on the PLA films was investigated by the limiting oxygen index. The results indicated that low loading of PFR could significantly improve flame retardancy of PLA. The thermal stability of PLA films was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis.
