Electrospinning has been recognized as an efficient technique for the fabrication of polymer nanofibers. Various polymers have been successfully electrospun into ultrafine fibers mostly in solvent solution and some in melt form. In this study, the effect of solvents and their properties on electrospinning of polycaprolactone (PCL) solutions and the morphological appearance of the as-spun fibers were investigated qualitatively by means of a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Ultrafine PCL fibers were electrospun from 8, 12, 16 and 20 wt/vol% PCL solutions in mixed solvents: chloroform, methylenechloride and 1,2-dichloroethane as solvent, dimethylformamide (DMF), hexane and methanol as non-solvent. |
