A SSZ-13 zeolite can separate CO2 from larger molecules like N2 and CH4 because of their molecular size differences. However, methods to control the non-zeolitic defects of SSZ-13 membranes are limited. Here, we demonstrate that rapid thermal processing (RTP) of as-synthesized SSZ-13 membranes tunes their microstructural defect properties and increases their CO2 separation ability. After RTP, the maximum CO2/N2 separation factor increased under both of dry and wet conditions at 50 °C, compared with conventionally calcined membranes. In addition, SF of CO2/CH4 achieved as high as ~43.7 under wet conditions at 50 °C with RTP-treated SSZ-13 membranes. Furthermore, by using fluorescence confocal optical microscopy analysis, it was revealed that the reduced defect size improved the CO2 permeance & selectivity after RTP. |
