Fabrication of polymeric superhydrophobic surfaces, non-wettable surfaces with high water contact angles (WCAs) and facile sliding of drops, have attracted tremendous attentions in recent years. Adding nanoparticles to a low surface energy polymer has been regarded as effective method to obtain the superhydrophobic surfaces. In this study, fluorinated polyaniline nanoparticles were used to fabricate the superhydrophobic coatings. The surface fluorinated polyaniline particles were synthesized by oxidative polymerization of aniline in aqueous medium and a subsequent surface functionalization of the nanoparticle with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecanethiol via a thiol-ene addition. Coated surfaces obtained by spray coating of a mixture consisting of PTMG, fluoro alcohol, the PANI NPs, and polyisocyanate as a curative, showed contact angles of 153° for water. Moreover, the superhydrophobic coatings also showed excellent mechanical and chemical durability under harsh conditions. |
