To improve corrosion resistance of steel sheet, polymeric resin coating was introduced to steel industry. However, this method has a limitation to use because polymeric resin coating makes polymer coated steel sheet poor at thermal conductivity. Herein, with an aim to give excellent thermal conductivity to polymeric coating, nanodiamond (ND) was used as a filler. Although ND is a high thermally conductive carbon material, another problem, namely, sedimentation, occurs owing to its high specific gravity of ND. Therefore, additional treatment is needed to solve the sedimentation problem. ND was surface modified by 1-pyrenecarboxylic acid via ultrasonication. Dispersion stability of ND was measured by Turbiscan®. Thermal conductivity of ND embedded polymeric resin coating was characterized by QTM-500. The surface modified ND showed good dispersion stability. ND embedded polymeric coating has improved thermal conductivity when it is compared with conventional polymeric coating. |
