A hydrogel is an example of a smart material. Also hydrogel is good biocompatibility and ventilating ability for wound dressing. In the study, hydrogel from mixtures of poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone)/poly(vinyl alcohol) were prepared by E-beam irradiation technique. The mechanical properties, swelling and tensile strengthe were examined to evaluate the application of them for wound dressing. The radiation dose was 25kGy and the concentration of PVP/PVA was 10wt% and 15wt%. As compared with pure PVP hydrogel, PVP/PVA blend hydrogels showed high gel strength. Gel content and gel strength increased as PVA concentrations in PVP/PVA increased. Swelling degree increased as PVA concentrations in PVP/PVA decreased. The PVP/PVA hydrogels could be used for various biomedical applications. |
