Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) block copolymer can be formulated hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive (HMPSA) when blended with tackifier. As these PSAs are physically crosslinked and can be applied without the use of solvent, they are thermally processable and environmentally friendly. However SBS HMPSA cannot be used in high temperature applications and in applications where solvent and chemical resistance properties are required. So chemical crosslinking by UV irradiation is required. In this study, we used SBS having pendant vinyl groups located on the polybutadiene backbone, C5 tackifier resin, process oil and 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone as a photoinitiator and these materials were blended to HMPSA. After coated on PET film, with varying UV dose, the adhesion performance, probe tack, peel strength and SAFT, was evaluated, and FT-IR and DSC results were also considered. |
