Synthesis of Water-soluble and Amphiphilic Block Copolymers by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization |
초록 |
Most of the water-soluble and amphiphilic copolymers show large conformational changes in respond to change of environment which can be used for the trigger of stimuli-responsive behavior. It has been difficult in preparing water-soluble and amphiphilic block copolymers with well defined structure by conventional radical polymerization. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is employed for the controlled polymerization of polar hydrophilic monomers in aqueous media under mild conditions. Copper bromide/amines are used as the catalyst. PEG macroinitiator synthesized by reacting poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide was used for the synthesis of PEG-based diblock copolymers. Polystyrene macroinitiator synthesized by reacting hydroxyl group functionalized polystyrene with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide was used for the synthesis of PS-based amphiphilic diblock copolymers. Various kinds of polar hydrophilic monomers such as N-isopropyl acrylamide and methacrylate-type benzenesulfonamides are used for the synthesis of water-soluble and amphiphilic block copolymers by ATRP. |
