Cobalt Nitride Anchored Nitrogen-doped Carbon Nanofibers as Catalyst-Current Collector Integrated Air Cathode for Lithium-Oxygen Batteries |

Rechargeable lithium-oxygen (Li-O2) battery has attracted huge attention as one of large scale energy storage systems due to its high energy density and eco-friends. However, the Li-O2 cells are still suffer from the large loss of voltages induced by poor catalytic properties and low electronic conductivity of electrode materials. Metal nitrides are a class of compounds with metallic conductivity and excellent catalytic activities, considered as one of the promising and low-cost electrocatalysts in a variety of applications. Here we present the Li-O2 battery using a metallic cobalt nitride (Co4N) nanorod grown nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (CNFs) network as a binder-free and ultra-light air cathode. The Co4N/CNF based air cathode features excellent electrochemical performance and superior stability in Li-O2 cells by the aid of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) driven electrospun CNFs which have continuous electrical channels with high strength and numerous reaction sites, and self-limiting and reactive oxidized shells on the surface of Co4N grains. |
