A pressure swing adsorption (PSA) cyclic process was developed to purify iso-butane (C4H10) to a level of over 99.9% with carbon molecular sieve (CMS) and zeolite (ZSM-5) as an adsorbent. The cyclic process consists of 6 steps such as adsorption, first fixed pressurizing, desorption, low pressure purification, second fixed pressurizing and recovery. The mixture gases (iso-butane 80.02%, n-butane 19.98% and iso-butane 82.25%, n-butane 17.75%) were used to study the effects of feed compositions. The adsorbent effect was studied with CMS and ZSM-5. With the PSA cyclic process having two towers and adsorbents (CMS and ZSM-5), it was possible to get purified iso-butane of 99.9% purity. |
