Chondrocyte Study in Cartilage Cells Using Gellan-gum/Chondroitin sulfate Hybrid Scaffolds |

The chondroitin sulfate (CS) has been found to induce slow but sustained relief with respect to the clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis (OA), and these effects persist for long periods after treatment. In fact, chondroitin sulfate has been proven to be a structurally improved arthritis drug that can relieve, delay or stabilize joint inflammation in many animal experiments and clinical trials, thus providing symptom relief in long-term. In this study, we investigated the effect of gellan gum scaffolds containing chondroitin for treating osteoarthritis in vitro. The chondroitin content in the scaffolds was chosen as 10, 20 and 30%. The scaffolds characterizations were performed by SEM and FTIR. The cell adhesion and proliferation rate were confirmed by MTT assay and gene expression by RT-PCR. |
