Degradation of PE by Al-MCM-41 :Effect of Preparation Method on Catalytic Activity |

Feedstock recycling of plastic wastes has been drawn attention, because it can convert the plastic wastes into valuable by-products. Furthermore, the feedstock recycling was recognized to be more environmental sound than conventional treatment methods like landfill and incineration. Accordingly, the feedstock recycling of plastic wastes is one of the most emerging research fields. Since polyolefins occupies over 70% in total generation quantities of plastic wastes, the feedstock recycling of the polyolefins has been studied extensively. It was recently reported that catalytic cracking of polyethylene over Al-MCM-41 allowed high conversion as well as excellent selectivity for gasoline. This work compared the activity of Al-MCM-41 synthesized by post-synthetic grafting method (Al-MCM-41-P) with that of Al-MCM-41 synthesized by direct sol-gel (Al-MCM-41-D) in the pyrolysis of polyethylene. Thermogravimetric analysis under static conditions was carried out to estimate the activation energy of catalytic decomposition reaction. Lab scale bomb reactor was applied to characterize the pyrolysis products. |
