A heavily petroleum-dependent chemical industry is facing critical issues due to energy and environmental issues, which leads to many efforts dedicated to develop renewable and sustainable bio-based chemicals. Biomass-derived carbohydrates are the most abundant carbon source on earth and only 5% of total regenerated amounts are utilized by human. Here, I would like to present the study on valorization of biomass-derived carbohydrates by chemical conversion. Various methods to transform biomass-derived carbohydrates to valuable aromatic furan compounds are provided and the application of modified bio-based chemicals to photo-curable materials including adhesives, transparent coatings, dental resin composite are introduced. |
