Lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals (LCLCs) were used to make a coatable polarizer due to their self-assembling structure. LCLC films however, underwent extreme shrinkage and this induced a lot of cracks in film and finally, bad film stability. To make a LCLC film with better alignment and fewer cracks, coating and drying conditions in film formation process should be carefully determined. In this study, we investigated the parameters affecting the crack formation and LC alignment in LCLC films using Sunset yellow FCF and tried to propose optimum conditions. In addition, we will suggest a new method to increase stability of a LCLC film by forming a composite film. |
