We synthesized copolyaniline of poly(N-methylaniline) (PNMA) coated with Fe3O4 by both oxidation polymerization and co-precipitation processes to obtain PNMA-Fe3O4, morphology, crystalline structure, electrical conductivity, and magnetic properties of the composite particles were examined by various testing methods. Moreover, we also studied rheological properties of their electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) fluids, finding that the yield stresses of ER and MR fluids followed the power-law behavior under electric and magnetic field strength with their slopes of 1.5 and 1.0, respectively. Excellent elastic properties were also observed under input electrical/magnetic field strengths. The effects of Fe3O4 and PNMA with both electrical/magnetic behaviors demonstrate their smart suspension system possessing both ER/MR properties. |
