The emulsion polymerization of acrylate rubbers has been carried out in a semibatch process. Ethyl acrylate(EA), butyl acrylate(BA) and 2-methoxy ethyl acrylate(MEA) were used as monomer and vinyl chloroacetate as functional monomer. Effects of initiator content and chain transfer agent (CTA) content have been studied in terms of particle size and its distribution, conversion, glass transition temperature, gel contents etc. It was found that the optimum conditions for the conversion depend on initiator concentrations and inhibition (induced) period decreased with increasing initiator concentrations, while the glass transition temperature of the copolymer acrylate generally followed the Fox equation. |
