Molecularly-assembled monomers that contain polymerizable units often serve as precursors to unique supramolecules that have meritorious features such as enhanced stability and chromogenic functions. In this regard, polydiacetylene (PDA) supramolecules, readily prepared by UV irradiation of molecularly assembled diacetylene (DA) monomers, are attractive substances. The resultant conjugated polymers have alternating ene-yne backbone structures. The unique property of nanostructured PDA that leads to their application as sensing elements is the occurrence of a color (typically blue-to-red) and fluorescence (non-to-red) changes that take place in response to a variety of environmental perturbations. In this seminar, recent advances in the area of nanostructured PDA-based chemosensors focused on our results (fake gasoline detection, anti-counterfeiting, fingerprint analysis etc) will be presented. |
