Synthesis and Properties of a Self-Dopable Poly[2-ethynyl-N-(4-sulfobutyl)pyridinium betaine] |

Acetylenic pyridine compounds such as ethynylpyridine, dipyridylacetylene, and dipyridyl-diacetylene were known to be polymerized spontaneously by a simple alkyl halide treatment without giving the N-alkyl product, which is similar to the polymer formation from 4-vinylpyridine including cation radical. Here, we reported the synthesis of a self-dopable conjugated polymer, poly[2-ethynyl-N-(4-sulfobutyl)pyridiniumbetaine] and the electrochemical properties of polymer were studied. The cyclovoltamograms of polymer exhibited reversible electrochemical behaviors between the doping and undoping peaks. The kinetics of the redox process of this polymer was found that it is almost controlled by the diffusion process from the experiment of the oxidation current density of polymer versus the scan rate. |
