In this study, stability of AKD emulsion was studied with respect of the physical change of particle emulsion and chemical change of AKD itself. Three kinds of commercial AKD with 12.5%, 15%, and 20% fatty acid content were kept at 40, 50, and 60°C in water bath with storage time 15 and 30 days, respectively. Viscosity and particle size distribution were measured based on the different storage time. Also, the effect of fatty acid content present in AKD and biocide addition was investigated through the sizing degree performance. Based on this study, in higher temperature AKD was gradually hydrolyzed and influenced the stabilization of AKD-emulsion. Result indicated that solid content present in AKD could provide the appropriate sized paper according to Cobb-120 testing. |
