A wireless hydrogel sensor with cancer-selective self-healing and pressure-strain sensing was designed using cancer-targetable polydopamine-loaded redox-sensitive carbon dot (PDA/CD-PAM hydrogel). As the GSH level in cancer is higher than in normal cell, the cleavage of disulfide bond in PDA/CD induced the PDA release, causing conductivity change of PDA/CD-PAM and hydrogen bonding between each PDA nanoparticle. This caused distinct electronic signal during pressure-strain response along with distinct self-healing ability of hydrogel after treated with cancer and normal cell. The sensor was selective towards various cancer cell types, and sensitively distinguish cancer cell in the cancer-normal cell mixture. Moreover, pressure-strain and self-healing can be observed via smartphones, which is potential for future point-of-care diagnostics.
