Polymer bulk heterojunction solar cells using two donor materials of polymer and small molecule in active layer |

We studied the influence of long wavelength absorbing donor material, 2.4-bis[4-(N,N-diisobutylamino)-2,6-dihydrocyphenyl] squaraine (SQ), in the common polymer bulk heterojunction solar cell using poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT):[6,6]phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). SQ showed long wavelength absorption from 520 nm to 750 nm. Therefore, we expected ternary blend solar cell system have wider light absorption than common polymer bulk heterojunction solar cell. The power conversion efficiency of ternary blend solar cell system was increased by >20%. A short circuit current density was increased from 7.3 ± 0.3 mA/cm2 to 8.9 ± 0.1 mA/cm2 under 1 sun and a maximum power conversion efficiency of 3.4 ± 0.3% was obtained. |
