제목 Raman Spectroscopic Analysis of Nanostructure Materials: Self-Assembled Liquid Crystal Thin Film Monolayers on Colloidal Nanoparticle Surfaces and Chemically Functionalized Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes
초록 Raman spectroscopy as a vibrational spectroscopic tool has been currently utilized to characterize the nanostructure materials in a versatile way. Self-assembled monolayer thin films and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for example can be conveniently studied by Raman spectroscopy.
Self-assembled thin film monolayers have attracted much attention due to their potential applications in many areas including adhesion, corrosion, and biocompatibility. Structural order has been one of major concerns in most applications of self-assembled thin films since the packing and orientation of adsorbates affect the surface chemistry of the monolayers. The adsorption structures and surface reactions of various self-assembled monolayers prepared from thiols, isocyanides, liquid crystalline materials, and biochemicals on nanoparticle surfaces can be studied by means of Raman spectroscopy. Although colloidal dispersions have been studied ever since the report by Faraday in 1857, the physicochemical characterization of nanoparticles were not performed systematically until lately. On nanoparticle surfaces, greatly enhanced Raman signal can provide a detailed information on the interracial behaviors a variety of organic thin films on surfaces.
Despite the chirality problem leading to polydisperse materials of semiconducting and metallic types, carbon nanotubes CNTs have attracted considerable interest because of their unique physicochemical, electronic, and mechanical properties. A covalent functionalization of the sidewall via diazonium ion reactions was reported in 2003 to manipulate CNTs in solutions according to their electronic structure. The thermal and solubility properties of chemically functionalized CNTs have been studied to aim at chemical separation of CNTs by their physical characteristics. Recent efforts with preliminary results will be discussed at the presentation.
