Biological hydrogen production is environmentally-friendly and reproducible process. Over the past few years, several studies have been made on hydrogen production by anaerobic digestion. In this study, characteristics of hydrogen production by bacterum(E. coli) isolated from sewage sludge were investigated. All experiments were cultivated in a liquid nitrogen source medium containing 6.0 g/L Na2HPO4, 3.0 g/L KH2PO4, 0.5 g/L NaCl and 1.0 g/L NH4Cl. Each medium were combined with various carbon source (1g sorbitol, maltose, glucose, galactose, manitol or fructose). Galactose was found to produce the highest result among all carbon source, and hydrogen production have confirmed galactose. Maximum hydrogen production was reached at pH 6 and 9 on the initial pH control. Optimum pH shows that there is an evident diauxic patterns, because optimum pH have different point for growth and hydrogen production on the E. coli. |
