Regeneration of a Rabbit Calvarial Defect using Silk Fibroin Nanofiber/PGA Hybrid Scaffolds Fabricated by Electrospinning and 3D Printing Technique |

Tissue engineering aims regeneration of defected biological tissues and organs by combining cells, scaffolds, and growth factors. And 3D shapes of defect tissues are different according to patients. we prepared patient-customizable guided bone regeneration (GBR)/guided tissue regeneration (GTR) hybrid scaffolds by electrospinning and 3D printing techniques. Poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) scaffolds were fabricated using a 3D printer. The microstructure of silk fibroin nanofiber and PGA scaffolds was observed by SEM. Cell proliferation of osteoblasts on a PGA scaffold was analyzed by MTT assay. Rabbit calvarial defect model was used for animal test. Regenerated tissues were analyzed by Masson Trichrome staining micro-CT. Silk fibroin/PGA scaffold groups showed significant regeneration of bone compared to control groups. The Silk fibroin nanofiber/PGA scaffold construct will provide a prospective approach for regeneration of bone defects. Key words: Tissue engineering, 3D Printing, GBR, GTR |
