In this study, a new nanoporous polyacrylonitrile (PAN) separator incorporating phosphazene, a flame retardant agent, was fabricated by electrospinning for the safety of lithium ion batteries. To improve the heat resistance (<5% thermal shrinkage at 200 ℃) and mechanical strength (>40 MPa), the prepared separators were subsequently oxidized at 210 ℃ for 30 min. The content of phosphazene varied from 0 to 20 wt%, and the thicknesses of the separators were fixed at 20 ± 2 μm. For the flame retardancy, the vertical burning tests were conducted using the composite films and the ignition times of the specimens were recorded. Using the coin-cells with the composite separators, the discharge capacity, cycle stability, C-rate performance, and heat resistance were evaluated for the electrochemical studies. |
