A new type of metal-free click chemistry reactions based on a quantitative addition reaction between electron-rich alkynes and strong cyano-acceptors, such as tetracyanoethylene(TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane(TCNQ), was developed. The products of the new click chemistry reactions are donor-acceptor structures featuring intramolecular charge-transfer interactions. This offers interesting application possibilities as a chemosensor of specific metal ions. Polymeric donor-acceptor dyes could recognize Ag+ ion by well-defined color changes. The polymer-Ag+ complexes showed antibacterial activities. Furthermore, aromatic polymers were functionalized by this reaction. Thin film transistor studies revealed a clear correlation between the energy levels and carrier mobilities. All-polymer-based solar cells were fabricated, and their photovoltaic performances were evaluated. |
