Recently, the interest for Janus particle, an anisotropic particle, having two or more properties within one particle has increased in the nanoengineering fields. The anisotropic particles have the advantage that they provide the two anisometric storage spaces within the material resulting in unique assembly behavior. In this study, we prepared Janus particles using hydrogel and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION). SPION were dispersed in monomer aqueous solution, and SPION in aqueous monomer droplets were aligned by magnetic field. Then, the droplets were polymerized through UV-light or heat. We successfully fabricated anisotropic hydrogel particles less than 500 um in this effective manner. It is expected that various Janus particles can be prepared by the similar versatile facile process depending on the type of SPION. |
