Layer-by-Layer self assembly, which is based on alternating adsorption of cationic and anionic charged polyelectrolyte, offers great opportunities for the development of materials applicable to a range of uses.Among lots of polymeric pairs, linear poly(ethylenimine) and poly(acrylic acid) of weakly charged polyelectrolytes system has an intriguing properties of interdiffusion and high polymer mobility even in the ionically complexed structures. Through a use of this inherent characteristic, here, we demonstrate a spontaneous planarization of the non-planar surface by depositing a very thin film of polyelectrolyte multilayers. We confirmed the surface-flattening effect with a comparative experiment from strongly charged polyelectrolyte system. It is anticipated that this technique can be used for various applications, such as in electronics, flexible devices, micro-optics, and biochip devices. |
