Development of the fuel microspheres fabrication process by external gelation process was carried out for TRISO coated fuel. A sol-gel process based the application of the external gelation technique to concentrated low pH urania sols is described and also, it describes the laboratory-scale gel-forming apparatus, optimum broth formation and operating conditions, preparation of acid-deficient uranyl nitrate stock solution, the system used to provide uniform broth droplet formation and control, and the process of calcining and sintering UO3·2H2O microspheres to form dense UO2 kernels. |
