A strong electron deficient unit, 5-(pyridin-4-yl)pyrimidine, was synthesized as the core structure of bipolar host material for blue phosphoresent organic light-emitting diodes. 3,3'-(4-(pyrimidin-5-yl)pyridine-2,6-diyl)bis(9-phenyl-9H-carbazole) [PmPy-CzP] and 9,9'-((4-(pyrimidin-5-yl)pyridine-2,6-diyl)bis(3,1-phenylene))bis(9H-carbazole) [PmPy-mCP] were successfully prepared by suzuki coupling reactions of 5-(2,6-dichloropyridin-4-yl)pyrimidine with (9-phenyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)boronic acid and (3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)boronic acid. PmPy-mCP showed high triplet energy of 2.75 eV for efficient energy transfer to blue phosphorescent dopant. We have evaluated device performances using the bis(3,5-difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl)iridium III (Firpic) as blue phosphoresent dopant. They showed energy levels and triplet energy suitable for deep blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diode application. |
