Multifunctional nanoparticles having magnetic property and plasmon resonance at NIR region have implications for precise diagnosis and high treatment efficacy in biomedical applications. To date, this type of nanoparticles has been mostly fabricated on a 2-dimensional substrate by few research groups, suffering from poor yield. Here we demonstrate a solution-based approach with high yield to synthesize asymmetric gold nanoparticle using dumbbell like gold/iron oxide seed for gold overgrowth onto the seed. In this work, a weak reducing agent was intentionally used to reduce unwanted self-nucleation in growth solution during gold overgrowth. We believe that our proposed method have great potential applications in the biomedical field. |
