The objective of this study is to provide biofuels policy status and production technology of liquid biofuels same as biodiesel, green diesel fuel from microalgae biomass (Aurantiochytrium sp., Tetraselmis sp.) in Korea. From the methods, some microalgae biomass is converted to biodiesel via trans-esterification process and it is produced to bio-jet fuel by thermal and chemical process for alternative fuels on national R&D level in Korea. Biofuels characteristics derived microalgae biomass was analyzed. In conclusions, fuel properties of biodiesel from microalgae biomass was investigated by the Korean specification including FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) contents. On the other hand, bio-jet fuel from microalgae showed challenging fuel characteristics by the ASTM D 7566 specification to apply jet fuel. Finally, next generation liquid biofuels production from microalgae biomass is a very challenging fuels as an alternative energy for energy security and GHG reduction in Korea. |
