제목 Algal Culture Systems with Selectively Permeable Materials to Cultivate Microalgae with Nutrients Dissolved in Seawater
초록 Microalgae are considered as better feedstocks for biofuels production over energy crops. Algal biofuels production requires less resources than crops do, but substantial amounts of resources are needed for mass production. Ocean-based algal cultures have potentials to improve sustainability and economic feasibility of algal biofuels by harnessing marine resources. In this study, selectively permeable materials (SPMs) were applied in algal culture system to utilize nutrients in seawater. A green microalga Tetraselmis sp. MBEyh04Gc was cultivated in SPM culture systems in simulated marine conditions. The maximum specific biomass productivity of the systems was 0.29 g/L/d. Compared with indoor cultures, overall fatty acids contents showed no differences, but proportion of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids increased probably due to different light conditions. The results of this study demonstrate that algal biomass can be produced sustainably by utilizing nutrients in seawater.
