Synthesis and Characterization of New Diblock Copolymers from n-Butyl Acrylate and DPAA by RAFT Polymerization |

New block copolymers were synthesized from n-butyl acrylate (n-BA) and p-dodecylphenyl-N-acrylamide (DPAA) by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization in the presence of a chain transfer agent (CTA) and initiator. Carboxyl-terminated trithiocarbonate as a CTA was used to produce poly(n-BA) macro-CTA. The composition ratio in the block copolymers and their molecular weights were controlled by changing the concentration of DPAA against the macro-CTA and polymerization time. The block copolymerization proceeded with controlled/living characteristics. Thermal and physical properties of the block copolymers were investigated by DSC, TGA and GPC. The morphologies of thin films of the block copolymers cast from solvent were examined by atomic force microscopy. |
