제목 Preparation of Supported Dinuclear Organometallic Catalysts over MAO-treated SiO2 and Ethylene Polymerization in Hexane Slurry Process
초록 In recent years, metallocene catalysts have been focused upon as the next generation of olefin polymerization because they exhibit a high activity for olefin polymerization and the polymers produced by these catalysts have the properties different from those by Ziegler-Natta catalyst. The metallocene catalyst system is, basically, homogeneous and therefore, the majority of studies on these catalysts have concentrated on solution-phase processes. However, in order for a metallocene catalyst to be used in the prevailing slurry or gas phase processes, it is necessary to modify them to a supported form so that they can be utilized in heterogeneous systems. Since all commercial polymerization processes involving Ziegler-Natta catalysts are used in heterogeneous systems, the preparation of heterogeneous metallocene catalyst is a prerequisite for the replacement of existing processes with a new catalyst system.
In this study, based upon the above rationale, new types of dinuclear organometallic catalysts were synthesized and these catalysts were impregnated over MAO-treated silica. Ethylene polymerization in hexane slurry process was carried out in order to investigate the characteristics of the supported metallocene catalysts.
