Synthesis of bio-based photo-curable materials from isosorbide and investigation on their properties |

Carbohydrate biomass is most abundant and widely distributed feedstock and many efforts were made to transform carbohydrate into useful chemicals. In particular, dehydrated compounds of carbohydrates such as isosorbide are among most promising platform to apply various materials. In this study, we prepared photo-curable materials from isosorbide and verified their feasibility of photo-curable adhesives and binder of transparent composites. Photo-curing behaviors including curing rate and shrinkage ratio were measured using photo-DSC and linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) transducer. Lab shear strength was tested after photo-curing to see adhesive power. In addition, transparency and thermal stability were also evaluated. VOC emissions of the synthetic bio-based chemicals during and after photo-curing will be also addressed. |
