FTIR Spectroscopic Study on the Crystallinity of Annealed Poly(L-lactic Acid)-Caprolactone Block Copolymers |

In the present study, poly(L-lactic acid) [PLA] - caprolactone [LC] block copolymers (assigned as PLC-1, 2 and 3) were synthesized and studied for their changes in crystallinity as a function of varying LC content (6, 10 and 14 %). The samples were subjected to 12 different annealing temperature conditions (40 to 145 oC, 8h under continuous vacuum). FTIR absorbance spectra of the thermally annealed samples were subjected to factor analysis (FA) to study the quantitative changes in crystalline behavior of PLC samples. Samples annealed in the temperature range between 110 to 130 oC exhibited higher increase in crystallinity than the as-cast sample, irrespective of the LC content in the block copolymer.
