The polymer electrolyte membranes based on sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)(sPEEK) / poly(vinylidenedifluoride) (PVdF) / urethane acrylate non-ionomer (UAN) were prepared for redox flow battery (RFB). With the incorporation of amphiphilic polymer (UAN), the miscibility of hydrophilic- and hydrophobic-polymers (sPEEK and PVdF) in the membrane was investigated by the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The ionic conductivity of the membrane increased with the introduction of compatibilizer, UAN, which enhanced the miscibility between sPEEK and PVdF polymers. In addition, the good miscibility in the composite membrane influence on the change of the glass transition temperature of the membrane. One Tg was confirmed in the homogeneous membrane morphology, however, Tg of sPEEK and PVdF composite was separately split into two Tg in the phase-separated membrane morphology due to the poor miscibility between sPEEK and PVdF polymers. |
