We had synthesized of novel polyamic acids containing rigid alicyclic side group like cyclopentadecanyl moiety for liquid crystal alignment layer, which can be used for in-plane switching liquid crystal device owing to their very low pertilt angle. The structures of newly synthesized monomers and polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. In this study, we had prepared a series of polyimide with different diamine compositions and investigated properties such as thermal stability, transparency, mechanical properties as well as electro-optic properties of liquid crystal display device. Further, we had investigated relationship of pretilt angle and surface tension with composition of aromatic diamines.
