Synthesis and characterization of sulfonated cardo poly(arylene ether sulfone) for fuel cell proton exchange membrane application |
초록 |
Sulfonated cardo poly(arylene ether sulfone)s with various sulfonation degrees were prepared by postsulfonation of synthesized phenolphthalein anilide (N-phenyl-3,3’-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-isobenzopyrolidone) poly(arylene ether sulfone)s (PPA-PES) by using concentrated sulfuric acid as sulfonating agent. PPA-PESs were synthesized by direct polycondensation of phenolphthalein anilide (PPA) with bis-(4-fluorophenyl)-sulfone and 4,4’-sulfonyldiphenol. The structure of sulfonated PPA-PES (SPPA-PES) and different contents of sulfonated unit were studied by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DSC, and TGA. The water uptake of synthesized SPPA-PES membranes exhibit 25-61% compared with 28% of Nafion 211®. The SPPA-PES membranes exhibit proton conductivities (25 oC) of 11.7~25.3 x 10-3 S/cm compared with 33.7 x 10-3 of Nafion 211®. The transparent SPPA-PES proton exchange membranes are expected to be a promising candidate for fuel cell application. |
