제목 Synthesis and characterization of sulfonated cardo poly(arylene ether sulfone) for fuel cell proton exchange membrane application
초록 Sulfonated cardo poly(arylene ether sulfone)s with various sulfonation degrees were prepared by postsulfonation of synthesized phenolphthalein anilide (N-phenyl-3,3’-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-isobenzopyrolidone) poly(arylene ether sulfone)s (PPA-PES) by using concentrated sulfuric acid as sulfonating agent. PPA-PESs were synthesized by direct polycondensation of phenolphthalein anilide (PPA) with bis-(4-fluorophenyl)-sulfone and 4,4’-sulfonyldiphenol. The structure of sulfonated PPA-PES (SPPA-PES) and different contents of sulfonated unit were studied by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DSC, and TGA. The water uptake of synthesized SPPA-PES membranes exhibit 25-61% compared with 28% of Nafion 211®. The SPPA-PES membranes exhibit proton conductivities (25 oC) of 11.7~25.3 x 10-3 S/cm compared with 33.7 x 10-3 of Nafion 211®. The transparent SPPA-PES proton exchange membranes are expected to be a promising candidate for fuel cell application.
