Decomposition of low concentration indoor VOCs using non-thermal plasma in a gas circulating reactor |
초록 |
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that exist in diluted concentrations within indoor spaces are known to be harmful to human health and to be atmospheric ozone precursors. A non-thermal plasma device less than 3 kV was used to decompose four types of VOCs at a concentration range of 5 to 100 ppm in balance with air. A surface dielectric-barrier discharge (DBD) plasma reactor was used and a gas pump was added to the system to recirculate unreacted species back in the device to further help in the degradation of target gasses. Activation energy of each gas was determined to find out the ideal operating conditions of the reactor. Highest decomposition efficiency in a fixed flow rate of 1 L/min was achieved by treating n-hexane at 20 ppmv. Increasing input energy resulted to higher decomposition efficiency but has an inverse effect with the energy yield of the system. CO2 and ozone concentrations also linearly increased with the increase of energy input in the system. |
