Light-induced fast responding photo-actuators prepared with comb-type hydrogels containing magnetite nanoparticles |

In this work, we developed rapid responsive photo-actuators with temperature responsive comb-type hydrogels and photothermal magnetite nanoparticles (MNP). We found that MNPs loaded in the hydrogels matrix can absorb visible light and convert photo energy into thermal energy, thereby heating the matrix and inducing volume shrinkage of the hydrogels. The comb-type hydrogel exhibited significantly enhanced light-induced volume shrinkage and rapid recovery. We fabricated photothermally driven bilayer-type photo-actuators that show reliable bending motion with maximized volume change and minimized response time. |
