제목 Solid-State NMR Study of Amorphous Region in Semicrystalline Polyethylenes
초록 It is well known that incorporation of a small amount of short chain branches has a dramatic effect on the mechanical properties of polyethylene. Although extensive research work has been carried out to study the structural changes caused by the short branches in the lamellar crystalline region, few studies have been done concerning the noncrystalline region. In this study, we employed the rotor encoded rotational echo double resonance (REREDOR) technique of solid-state NMR method to investigate the chain dynamics in the amorphous regions of two polyethylene samples, namely linear polyethylene and an ethylene-1-hexene copolymer, at temperatures around the β transition (~250K). The dynamics was studied by extracting information on the heteronuclear dipolar coupling, which in turn gives an idea on the order in that region.
