제목 Biomimetic Synthesis of Silica using Silk Sericin
초록 Silica is synthesized in nature by various organisms. Among them diatoms and marine sponges are getting interests since they form highly complicated structure under mild conditions. Silaffin and silicatein are most well known proteins that are involved during the synthesis of silica in diatoms and marine sponges. A common feature of these proteins is that serine is either the major amino acid or plays an important role. Sericin is a protein from silkworm and it envelops two strands of fibroin. Sericin has extremely high content of serine about 30%. We used sericin for silica synthesis instead of silaffin or silicatein. TEOS were used for the precursor of silica and were mixed with sericin solution at room temperature for predetermined time. The formation of silica was confirmed with TGA and NMR. In addition, sericin was imbedded into silica therefore the final product was a kind of organic/inorganic complex.
