The quantum dot (QD) has been come under the spotlight as a highly-efficient luminescent material due to its excellent optical properties. Unfortunately, QD is easily degraded when it is exposed to moisture, heat, and oxidant, which has been a hurdle for practical applications. Moreover, QD is affected complexly by above degradation factors. Especially in LED applications, thermal and photo-stability should be guaranteed. In this study, to enhance stability, we encapsulated QD with a polymeric microcapsule composed of multi-lamellae and successively covered with the amorphous silica shell on the surface via sol-gel method. Morphology of the encapsulated QD was studied using SEM and TEM. The optical properties and stability of white QD-LED were demonstrated by life test with varying applied voltages. |
