Hard and Soft Tissue Regeneration with Phosphate Based Glasses |

Phosphate-based glasses are a unique group of materials that open up a range of possibilities for use as temporary materials for a wide range of possible hard and soft tissue reconstruction problems. They have two properties which can be utilized for a range of biomedical problems: (1) they are completely degradable and (2) the rate of degradation may be controlled over several orders of magnitude. The work we have carried out in collaboration with a number of groups within the UK and overseas has had two aspects to it: to develop a more complete understanding of the structure of these glasses at the atomic level and how this controls bulk properties such as degradation and the more applied work developing them for hard and soft tissue use. |
