Multifunctional Polymer-Ultrasmall Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for Targeted Nanotheranostic Applications |

Hydrophobic octadecylamine (C18) and hydrophilic O-(2- aminoethyl) polyethylene glycol (PEG, Mw 5000) were grafted on a PSI backbone for biodegradable amphiphilicity drug carriers. Biotin was conjugated at the end of the PEG segment as the cell penetrating ligand. The polysuccinimide derivatives synthesized were coated on iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles to make core-shell structure for potential applications in drug delivery systems with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), hyperthermia and chemotherapy. The chemical structure of the polymer and degree of substitution of the graft segments were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The average diameter of the polymer micelles was about 60-80 nm (TEM) and 160 nm (DLS) with a narrow distribution. The magnetic properties such as relaxation and magnetization saturation of novel structure was investigated by SQUID, relaxometry. |
