The unique morphological features and different chemical reactivity of multi segmented nanorod is profitable advantages to gene and drug delivery. In our first study, nickel/gold nanorod was applied in cancer targeting. Folate was conjugated on nickel through carboxyl group and doxorubicin (Dox) was encapsulated in Pluronic F127 which is conjugated on gold segment by thiol group. As the result, Dox was successfully released out at 37°C and showed intracellular uptake ability in the presence of folate on nanorod. In the second study we applied the nanorod to deliver cell ligand to immune cells in order to investigate the effect of surface-decorated the nanorod with two different ligands, GRGDS and mannose, recognized by bone marrow dendritc cells (BMDCs) and immature T cells. GRGDS and mannose modified nanorods (mNRs) were cultured with CD11c+ BMDCs and Jurkat cells. After that, interleukin 2 (IL-2) levels in supernatant was analyzed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). |
