In this work, core-shell type modifiers were synthesized by emulsion polymerization and blended with PLA to improve its impact strength. The inner core of the modifier was composed of butyl acrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate for elastic characteristic. In order to study the miscibility between PLA and modifier, the outer shells were prepared with various composition of methylmechacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate. Tensile and impact test were performed by UTM and Izod Impact Tester to investigate the effect of the modifier on the mechanical properties of blends. The morphology of Izod-fractured surfaces was examined by SEM to study the fracture mechanism of blends. In addition, thermal properties of blends were characterized by DSC and TGA. |
