Organic-Inorganic diblock copolymer of styrene and polyvinylsilazane has been synthesized with a methodology based on living radical polymerization using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT). The reaction was carried out at 70oC for 48 hrs with cumyl dithiobenzoate and 2,2’-azo-bis-isobutyrylnitrile (AIBN) as the initiating system. The block copolymer, having Mn = 8600 and Mw = 14500 in a high synthetic yield of 90% was characterized with IR, GPC, TGA/DSC, 1H-, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. In addition, the block copolymer was used to obtain preliminary evidence of phase separation in the copolymer products. |
